SMS: your sending number and US registration
To send texts you need a sending number and, in the US, message registration (10DLC). What it is, how long it takes and what to do meanwhile.
Updated
Texts go out from a phone number that belongs to your business. In the United States, carriers also require you to register who sends messages and why. It's a normal step that protects your customers from spam.
What you need
- A sending number for your account. If your account doesn't have one yet, ask us by email and we'll set it up.
- US message registration (10DLC) if you text people in the US.
- Your business's real details: legal name, address, website and how you get your customers' permission.
- A published privacy policy and terms, and a form where the person agrees to receive texts.
How it's done
- Check that your business details match your official documents.
- Submit the registration from "My first day", in the "Register your text messages in the US" step: it takes you to Settings › Phone System, Trust Center tab. You need your business tax number (EIN) and your published website.
- Check that your forms have a checkbox for text permission, not pre-ticked.
- Wait for approval. You can see the status on that same screen.
Would you rather do it with a person? In Onboarding we do it with you on a video call (paid, except with annual Grow and Scale).
How long it takes
Registration can take days or weeks to be approved, and it depends on the carriers, not on NeuroAI. It's best to start on day one.
What to do meanwhile
- Answer on WhatsApp (if your plan includes it), email and your website chat.
- While registration is pending, don't send texts in bulk: they may not be delivered.
- Your automatic messages keep going out by email.
Texts cost credit per message. See Your credit: what uses it and how to top up.
If something goes wrong
- Registration rejected: write to us with a screenshot and we'll tell you which detail doesn't match (that's usually it) so you can resubmit.
- A text isn't delivered: see My text messages aren't delivered.
